Friends in Low Places

It doesn’t get much lower at about 300 feet below sea level in Death Valley. I made some new friends recently, as you see in the photos. I know I included a lot of coyote shots, but I couldn’t help it. They are so expressive and seemingly friendly, although I wouldn’t trust them. I mean… you’ve seen the Roadrunner cartoons, haven’t you? In all seriousness, please respect nature and don’t treat these animals like dogs if you ever have the privilege of meeting them. They are hungry, wild animals. They want food, and to them your kids look like food.
The lizard is a Western Chuckwalla (Sauromalus obesus obesus), and puffs up between rocks as a defense mechanism by inflating its lungs to 3 times capacity.
