I just got back from the Trona Pinnacles in the California desert, and what an amazing experience! Just three hours from the city, these rock formations sit in an ancient dry lake bed, formed from calcium carbonate deposits over time when they were underwater. There are three groups of tufa formations ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 years old. You are able to drive directly into the valleys formed by some of the tufas, as you feel completely awe inspired by the shapes towering over you. When you stop for a minute to consider the conditions and passage of time that had to take place in order for this to occur, its mind boggling.
The location has been used for countless commercials and Hollywood films, including Planet of The Apes. Just being there makes your imagination run wild with sci-fi fantasies. If I were to ever need inspiration for writing a Mars based movie I would go here! In fact, I accidentally hiked over a hill to find myself on someone's "set." Oops.
Thanks to Zeiss, once again, for the awesome lenses. I am continuingly "lespired" by your uncomparable precision and craftsmanship. I couldn't do what I do without you. Check out these awesome lenses by Zeiss: http://lenspire.zeiss.com/en/
Here are a couple more in development today. Do you have a favorite? Mine is the panoramic (first image shown above). Let me know if you'd like to see a full resolution image before ordering a print or licensing for your project.
