Excerpt from Sacred Waterfalls:
Toketee Falls, OR
North Umpqua River
Height: 113 ft
Toketee is one of my favorite waterfalls. Chinook for Graceful, it is exactly that. A 1/3 mile hike along the deep blue river leads to this viewpoint. The lava formed rock formations remind me of my earliest hiking memories with family, as they resemble Devil’s Postpile in the Sierra Nevada, so I was touched that my Dad was here with me. He has taught me so much about hiking and photography, and on this day we got to learn together how to wake up a frozen drone to photograph what’s beyond the alcove. Yes, it was that cold. A few brave souls have kayaked that section and gone over the falls, but I prefer to stay dry most of time.
